Fiddler On The Roof - Broadway - Billy Miller

Billy Miller’s setup for the Broadway revival of Fiddler On The Roof.
“The orchestra was on stage with the drums and woodwinds off to the side behind a scrim. My space was small so I had to make a few concessions. I used hand cranked timpani on pedestals so I’d have a smaller foot print. It was actually a better way to go with all the tuning changes. I could play with my feet and right hand while changing the pitch with my left hand.
I also made a rack for the chimes so they could be lower to the ground and I could play them sitting down, I didn’t need the full set. This however posed a problem when later in the run we added some new understudy keys. This made my chime setup a little more complicated. I marked each chime with the pitch and hung black fabric for the notes that I wasn’t going to need for that show.”
